He clearly remembers the launch of the Callaway and Nike square drivers as well as the white TaylorMade driver families, such as the RocketBallz! If you take a look at the Golf Monthly YouTube channel, you'll see his equipment videos dating back over a decade! He has also conducted 'What's In The Bag' interviews with many of the game's best players like Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm. Throughout his time with the brand he has also covered equipment launches that date back well over a decade. Originally working with the best coaches in the UK to produce instruction content, he has also presented many Golf Monthly videos looking at all areas of the game from Tour player interviews to the rules of golf. In July 2023, Neil became just the 9th editor in Golf Monthly's 112-year history. There is enough distance and forgiveness built in too to really make a difference to your iron game. They look good in the bag and sit beautifully behind the ball. However, at this entry level price, they feel very solid and the irons get through the turf nicely at impact.Īnyone looking for an entry level set of irons should certainly test these alongside the new Benross HTX Type R irons. Obviously, if you are thinking about investing in these Lynx irons, you are unlikely to be doing so because of their feel and there are better feeling irons on the market. The flight throughout the session and throughout the bag was high and really strong. The only problem was that I hit one shot that was a lot longer than the others and this is something better ball-strikers will need to be wary of. In my own testing, the 8-iron was a couple of yards longer through the air than my own 8 iron but in the 5-iron, I was 12 yards longer. Despite being an entry level product there is plenty of forgiveness built in and with that you will also notice very healthy distance numbers. Final word: learn with these and then move to a forged-iron with high workability. The performance is extremely solid. You can really work these clubs once you have learned how to swing different strokes/shots. But if you want to learn the traditional down the line Tiger or Mickelson type swing this is the set to practice on. I see golfer with wacky swings hitting it straight because of the wide club head. I really think all the new technology user-friendly clubs out there really don't teach one the fundamentals of the game. (That's all they are worth since they are at least a decade old, and Lynx went out of business.) If you believe in the saying "it's the golfer not the club," then I would recommend buying these clubs and using it to learn how to play. You could probably find a cheap set online for $20-$40. When you hit the ball dead center the club feels almost like hitting thin air, a feeling you want to store in your muscle memory. You really know when you left the club head open or slowed down in your down swing. But the club gives you incredible feed back. Any mis-hit will result in a hook or slice and/or loss of distance. You have to hit it dead center for distance but it feels so great when you do. Small, narrow blades, firm steel shaft, ver little offset and not so good a grip. I have the pre-cavity back model that are really hard to hit. Lynx Parallax is the first set of clubs I ever owned. I think I never forgot the fundamentals I learned when I was younger, and don't make many of the mental mistakes I used to make. I've been playing for 2 years now since I started again and my game has improved by at least 10 strokes. I played golf for four years in high school and then quit playing for six years and picked it up again.
